840,000 cigarettes worth over 400 thousand MDL, discovered at Moldovan-Romanian border
The Border Policemen of the Southern Regional Directorate registered the biggest catch of the cigarettes in the area of responsibility this year. More than 840,000 cigarettes of different trademarks were raised, the case is currently investigated by the officers of the criminal investigation of the Border Police.
The employees of the Border Police jointly with the representatives of SC "Train and auto stations" have initiated a set of measures to combat the cases of illicit international trafficking of persons. The actions take place in the context of strengthening the cooperation between institutions in the fight against cross-border crime, and under bilateral agreements.
The employees of the border crossing point Leuşeni detected and detained a quadricycle, of Kawasaki brand, for which the driver submitted a counterfeit registration certificate.
On weekend, the border policemen countered a case of smuggling cigarettes across the river Prut in the area of responsibility of Border Police Sector Lipcani.
As a result of the specific activities within the area of competence, in order to monitor and control the state border, as well as to prevent and combat illegal migration and cross-border crime, the Border Police officers, during the last 24 hours, registered the following illegal acts:
Border policemen from the BCP Leuseni detected a car of brand Toyota Highlander, worth over 30,000 euro, which was given in international search by the Slovak authorities. The means of transport was led by a Hungarian citizen, aged 42.
Border policemen discovered on the banks of the river Prut 40,000 contraband cigarettes and detained four persons who wanted to smuggle cigarettes into Romania.
