Tobacco products, alcohol and vehicles were the most smuggled items detected by the officers of the NORTH Regional Directorate of the Border Police Department during year 2014. In the border crossing points and on the green border segment that are under the jurisdiction of the Directorate, a total of 76 cases of smuggling had been detected, involving 82 people, with a total value of the captured goods of 5 180 461 MDL.

A comprehensive report reflecting the operational analysis of the main indicators of the NORTH Regional Directorate, such as the flow of people and means of transportation, unauthorized crossings of the state border, countering of border legislation violations, illegal migration, smuggling etc., was presented during the summing up meeting that took place today on the 19th of January, with participation of the Head of the Border Police Department, Mr. Dorin PURICE.
In 2014, the subdivisions of the NORTH Regional Directorate, documented 1144 cases of violation of border legislation following with identification and detention of 1249 persons. According to the statistical data, around 90% of the total number detentions took place in the border crossing points, the biggest number of cases being related to violation of the rules of stay on the territory of Republic of Moldova - 61%. Also, through 19 border crossing points under the jurisdiction of the Directorate, the Border Police officers registered 5,4 million people and 819 thousands means of transportation crossing the border.

In the reference period a decrease of the migration phenomenon was registered, in 2014 - 9 persons were detained compared to 16 in 2013.
According to the statistics the Directorate countered 22 attempts of smuggling with tobacco products, involving 27, with a total value of the captured goods of 786 371 MDL.
Other 6 persons were detained and documented in 10 cases of alcohol smuggling (16 426 liters with an estimated value of 645200 MDL).

It is to be mentioned that most of the smuggling cases detected in the border crossing points were cases of smuggling of vehicles. BP inspectors detected 29 cases involving 29 persons attempting to cross the border with vehicles with false or falsified documents, or chassis modifications. The detained means of transportation are evaluated to 3 099 102 MDL.

Enhancing professional abilities of employees, raising the level of initial and continuous professional training of the personnel as well as ensuring the necessary level of staff in the subdivisions - were the main objectives of the Directorate in the area of human resources during 2014. The level of employment within the Directorate is 90 %. In the area of personnel training, considering the necessity of enhancing the Directorate’s capabilities in relevant areas of activity, 388 employees participated in international training courses and 889 employees in internal training courses.

Also, aiming to ensure a favorable physiologic climate in the collective of the Directorate, 47 activities were organized with this goal, such as counseling sessions, individual and group discussions, psychological evaluation, 182 employees being provided with psychological assistance.
Regarding the disciplinary and stimulation measures, in the reference period - 130 disciplinary sanctions were applied, 283 border police officers were stimulated with diplomas, distinctions and ranks in advance of the time.

The Head of the Border Police had qualified the activity of the subdivision as being good; he especially thanked the border police inspector of the Criva Border Police Sector that registered the best results in all activity fields. Dorin Purice asked the employees of the Directorate to keep up the good work, to act firmly and strictly in accordance with the law, in order to ensure that the criminality in this region will continue to diminish. “ You know your weaknesses, and vulnerabilities, this is why during 2015 you have the obligation to do everything necessary to change the situation and to overcome them. At the same time, the Head of Border Police has mentioned that the culture of communication, integrity, equidistance, objectivity and transparency must be the defining notions of the daily activity of the border police officers”.
