During the day of October 16th, the deputy head of the Border Police, Ianus Erhan, received two visits from European officials.
During the meeting with the representatives of the Border Police Unit of Police from Stockholm, Sweden, were discussed aspects of inclusion of Moldova's border institution as co-beneficiary of the Project of the Swedish Institute for cooperation in the region of Baltic Sea "Molsto" whose main beneficiary is the Bureau for Migration and Asylum of the Republic of Moldova. The project aims to combat illegal migration and cross-border crime through the development of the cooperation, exchange of information and risk analysis, both nationally and internationally. Thus, within the project, the parties involved will have the opportunity to conduct familiarization trips with activity and working methods of the Border Police from Stockholm in order to take over the best practices and to develop a viable mechanism for the exchange of information on cross-border crimes.
In the context of the discussions held, Mr. Ianus Erhan thanked the Swedish experts for the opportunity given border authority to benefit from the project and assured regarding the opening of the institution for cooperation.
The benefits offered by the Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Police Office, which is expected to be signed by the end of 2014, have been discussed by the deputy head of the Department with the liaison officer of the Republic of Moldova to Europol and the representatives of the departments responsible for organized crime and combating the Euro counterfeiting within Europol. Given the special powers in investigation and prosecution offered to Border Police following the reorganization, and the responsibility in securing external border of the European Union, Europol representatives stressed the importance of border authority in combating cross-border crime. The experts encouraged the Border Police to adopt a pro-active attitude and to benefit from cooperation mechanisms that will provide agreement with Europol, in this sense, they gave assurances of support offered to border institution in order to make the operational activity more efficient.
One aspect to be materialized is to develop the ability of criminal analysis of the Border Police with the support of Europol.
