The Border Police of the Republic of Moldova has received computers and equipment from the Japan Tobacco International company (JTI), one of the leading manufacturers of cigarettes worldwide. The entire batch of the equipment shall reach the Criminal Investigation and Special Investigations Directorates, the subdivisions that will contribute to the capacity building of the institution in order to combat the cross-border crime, particularly the smuggling of tobacco products.
The donation was carried out in the context of the Cooperation Protocol signed by JTI and the Border Police in 2013, which provides the cooperation in order to counteract the illicit trade in cigarettes.
One of the company's priorities JTI is fighting illicit cigarettes in this regard, the company recognizes and supports the efforts of the Border Police in anti-fraud activities, showing full support to continue the fight against illegal trade in cigarettes. The donated equipment and training programs for border guards, organized by JTI will serve as a tool to protect the interests of the state and the business environment.
In previous years, the company JTI contributed to equipping the Border Police with computers, printers, cameras and camcorders, including the training of personnel involved in preventing and combating cigarette smuggling.
