The European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) was launched on 1 December 2005 in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Moldova, the European Commission and the Government of Ukraine.
EUBAM’s mission is to support capacity building in the area of border control and to enhance regional security.
Partner services: Border Police and Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova; State Border Guard Service and Customs Service of Ukraine, as well as other LEAs and control services of both countries.
The Government of the Republic of Moldova, the European Commission and the Government of Ukraine decided upon extending EUBAM’s mandate until November 2015.
Cooperation with EUBAM is a key priority of the Moldovan Border Police. Joint activities are conducted in accordance with provisions of the EUBAM Action Plan for 2013 (9 Phase Action Plan) in the following areas:
- development of the legal framework of border management;
- Border Police capacity building through trainings and experience exchange;
- expertise in reform;
- development of joint patrolling and joint control at Moldova-Ukraine border;
- combating cross-border crime.
